San Diego’s Fashion Week Runway Show makes its debut at the Hard Rock Hotel

The night has finally arrived for San Diego’s emerging designers where they premiered their spring 2013 collections on the runway. The glamorous event took place at the stylish Hard Rock Hotel in the heart of San Diego’s Gas lamp quarter. The hotel is located in the fashionable nightlife district, which is well known for its entertainment, restaurants, art galleries and small boutiques. The event took place in a posh outdoor setting of the hotels rooftop where there was a runway built for the occasion. For this event the audience participated by casting their votes via a Fashion Week San Diego phone application to vote for their favorite designer. The contest will be judged by the audience on wear ability, creativity and overall appearance and craftsmanship. The designer with the highest score will be announced at the trunk show the following afternoon on October 7th at the Hard Rock Hotel. The winning designer will score an ultimate business package to help jump-start their career.

San Diego’s Channel 6 Kristen Mosteller, who is an anchor news reporter, TV personality and host of “San Diego Living” at XETV, hosted the glamorous event. The news anchor and presenter was wearing a beautiful metallic gold dress piece from designer Stacie Mays collection. The dress was an asymmetrical shape, one shoulder, and one sleeve stunning dress.

The first designer to open up and present her collections on the runway was NOIA by Evelyne. Her collection featured contemporary young women’s fashion such as dresses and jumpsuits with splashes of spring colors and strips with a touch of black laces and sheer chiffons. Her designs are ready to wear from daytime to nighttime. Dos Caras presented their spring resort wear collection with two male models escorting the models wearing beachwear lying on the runway to give it a beach time theme. The models strutted down the runway showing off the playfully chic swimwear. The swimwear had beautiful prints that included floral feminine suits and cover-ups to sexy Brazilian showgirl swimwear. The “Champagne Ladies” definitely made a splash on the runway with their debut spring collection.

One of my favorites of the night was Jessica Faulkner’s collection. Her collection stood out for me because of how creative the designs and theme of the collection was. Her designs were a cross between modern contemporary and vintage flair of the 1930’s and 1940’s fashion era. The models wore an adorable small hat and heart shaped lips. Her pieces are very feminine, stylish and classic. One of my favorite pieces from her collection was the red two piece pants suit that can be easily worn by the career women to a night time dinner date. It is elegant, classic yet stylish and feminine. This piece is very reminiscent of the women’s 1940’s post world war two-era fashions. Another adorable design is a gray and white-stripped pants and top for a casual but feminine daytime look.

Another amazing designer that impressed me with his gowns is Kenneth Barlis. In his opening scene his model glided down the runway with a gorgeous flowing red plunging neckline dress with a plumed red feather samba like headdress. This dress was my favorite of all Kenneth Barlis dresses of the night. The back of the dress has Kenneth Barlis name which was quite creative.

During intermission of the runway show there was a mind blowing live performance by DJ Violinist, Jennifer “Spags” Spingola. Jennifer can be seen and heard opening for high profile runway shows and nightclub events all over the world.

SYC ‘s designer Sameerah Yasmeen Corporal was another one of my top designers of the night. Her collection has classic clean cuts and a splash of bold color palettes for spring. One design I simply adored was her two-piece pant outfit with chic black and white top and bold magenta color pants. This look can be worn at a chic resort dinner to a day time out on the town look. Another one of my favorite pieces is a very elegant red off shoulder dress with a chic golden belt. This dress can be worn at the corporate lunch meeting to a romantic lunch date.

The show ended with Andre Soriano’s collection, which happens to be another favorite designer of mine. The one dress I simply could not take my eyes off was a stunning and sophisticated shiny gold evening dress. This dress reminds me of Charlize Theron in the J’Adore Dior commercial. I can see this amazing dress on the red carpet or black tie elegant cocktail dinner. The second dress I couldn’t tear my eyes off is a stunning black evening gown with tutu like ruffled layers. The dress looks like a black ballerina dress and is simply beautiful. Mr. Soriano’s over the top glamour and creativity is reflected in his amazing gowns.

There were a total of 12 designers for the night, which also included jewelry designers: “Love is a Devil” and “Erin Rader” jewelry. I can say there is definitely a lot of talent here in San Diego. Overall the night was filled with glamour, entertainment and fun. After the runway shows the models, designers and crowd got a chance to snap photos as well as mingle before hitting the after party!
