TACORI - SPARKLES - PREVIEW THE CITY LIGHTS COLLECTION 2012

Los Angeles, California - Last night The Los Angeles Fashion Magazine had the privilege to attend the unveiling of the new “City Lights” fall/winter 2012 collection by TACORI. The iconic jewelers also previewed the never before seen teaser trailer for their new short film “Par Chance”, the film was written and directed by Steve Antin (Burlesque).

The evening was picturesque, beautiful and brought you back to a time of elegance. Fanciful and fun the event was held at “The Lot” which was transformed into “Old Hollywood”. Scenes of classic films played against stark white walls. Beautiful black and white striped furniture splayed across the concrete floor and ornate chandeliers hung from the ceiling. The seating provided an allure that was inviting and enchanting.

Guests dressed to impress, playing upon the night’s theme, “Old Hollywood”. The Red Carpet lit up with appearances by, Dania Ramirez (Premium Rush), Christina Hendricks (Mad Men), Chelsea Rickett’s (Chasing Shakespeare), Aimee Teegarden (Friday Night Light’s), Christian Serratos (Twilight), Betsy Brandt (Breaking Bad), and Samantha Harris –Host of NBC (Stars Earn Stripes).  The Los Angeles Fashion Magazine had the chance to speak to some of the ladies mentioned above, briefly talking all things diamonds and designers.

Catching up with the “Twilight” star, Christian Serratos wearing Ted Baker, Yves Saint Laurent and Tacori diamond’s the star dazzled in her red dress and heels. The ‘Breaking Dawn’ star mentioned her love for Tacori, “It’s so feminine and really spruces up the red carpet. I love wearing these” (Serratos playfully motioned to her earrings). The gorgeous diamond drop-earrings completed her look perfectly.

Dania Ramirez, the ‘Devious Maids’ star looked stunning in her Rolando Santana dress and Manolo blahniks. Ramirez sparkled in her Tacori ring and earrings speaking of the iconic brand, Ramirez stated, “I’m loving it. It’s very ‘Old Hollywood’ I especially loved the brilliant jewel tones. I can’t wait to wear the collection.”

Samantha Harris looked gorgeous in her ellelauri black dress and Tacori jewels. The Stars Earn Stripes host spoke about her involvement with Feeding America, and her recent guest appearance on ‘The Pyramid’. Mentioning her love for Tacori, “I love the emerald color they are using. ‘The City Lights’ collection is classic and exudes that ‘Old Hollywood’ look and feel, Tacori did a beautiful job”.

Guests enjoyed themselves well into the evening as, ‘Club Tacori’ kicked-off. The black and white checkered dance floor was a welcomed addition to the event. Tacori’s ‘City Lights’ collection is as breathtaking and beautifully designed as the event itself. I stayed as late as I could and then slipped away just as the clock struck midnight. It was an evening that sparkled, both figuratively and literally, and I suspect will be remembered for quite sometime.

The Los Angeles Fashion Council Launches LAFW SS13 At Carondelet House

The Los Angeles Fashion Council kicked-off Fashion Week with runway show’s featuring ISM Mode, Odylyne, The Bohemian Society, and Jen Awad. The two day event is being held at the historic Carondelet House in Los Angeles and will also feature accessory brands; Pop Molly, Gilda Grey, Shallow Fashion, White Sycamore, Bijou Van Ness, and Kittinhawk.

Bohemian Society SS13

The Los Angeles Fashion Council although in it’s first season may appear to be the  new-kids-on-the-block but Kelsi Smith, fashion maven behind the blog, Dedicated Follower of Fashion, Stylesmith, and the blogger network Two Point Oh! LA, is also the Director and Founder of The Los Angeles Fashion Council and stands behind the motto of the LAFC; “Our mission is to elevate Los Angeles fashion design by creating a platform for presentation on local, national and international levels, as well as by providing education, funding and support.”

Jen Awad SS13 Collection

Smith had this to say about the two-day event, “I’m so looking forward to presenting these designers in our inaugural event, I’m personally extremely passionate about their work and look forward to seeing it in the beautiful setting of Carondelet House.”

Bohemian Society SS13 Collection

The house itself was beautiful and decorated as diversely as the designers that made up day one. The first brand to hit the runway was the German company, ISM Mode. The brand stayed true to their philosophy and design aesthetic to deliver clothing that captures comfort, modern style, detail, and sophistication. ISM Mode places a heavy focus on the design of each garment and believes in, “exploring the geometry of form and classic simplicity”. ISM was founded in Berlin, Germany and has since then recently moved to Los Angeles.

Following on the heels of ISM Mode was, Odylyne—beautiful, whimsical and vintage all came to mind when I laid eyes on the Spring-Summer 2013 collection. The brand’s concept and design is simple, a blending of bohemian and vintage styles with a touch of modernity and femininity. The color palette was simple and yet still managed to dazzle with pale blues, and corals. The collection was abundant with many silhouettes utilizing ivory as the color of choice. There were also some prints that were used as well. The runway show wasn’t so much a runway, as it was a circle, leaving the photographers in the pit struggling to find a good angle to capture their images. Aside from the minor adjustment that some of the photographers and press had to get used to the collection was well received.

The next designer to walk the runway was Jen Awad. A Los Angeles native and one of my personal favorites delivered a show that was true to her roots. Designing a collection that was not only modern but also vintage. Jen always one to use bright colors did not disappoint, the collection carried an array of bright blues, pinks, and of course black. Designed with passion and sophistication its apparent Awad continues to deliver each season collections that are chic-elegant with a bit of edge. Her designs are sexy yet classic and are extremely wearable.

Rounding out the evening was the artistic avant-garde designs of Victor Wilde the visionary behind the brand, Bohemian Society. Victor designs in many mediums and is a true artist in all the sense of the word. Since 2003 the brand has delivered collections that have continually pushed the envelope of what some would call wearable fashion. When you look at Victor’s collections they should be looked upon as works of art vs. the more heavily toted phrase, mentioned previously. It was safe to say tonight’s collection was no different. Except that it played upon what you might imagine to be images from a drug induced dream. The designs were dark, edgy and left the press pit literally screaming at the models, “Center. Walk down the center!”  That aside the production went fairly smoothly and as each look strolled down the runway the crowd appeared pleased, even sitting on the edge of their seats in anticipation of the next look.

If day one of The Los Angeles Fashion Council show’s are any indication of what tomorrow will bring I can safely say I await with anticipation for day two’s unveiling.

San Diego’s Fashion Week Runway Show makes its debut at the Hard Rock Hotel

The night has finally arrived for San Diego’s emerging designers where they premiered their spring 2013 collections on the runway. The glamorous event took place at the stylish Hard Rock Hotel in the heart of San Diego’s Gas lamp quarter. The hotel is located in the fashionable nightlife district, which is well known for its entertainment, restaurants, art galleries and small boutiques. The event took place in a posh outdoor setting of the hotels rooftop where there was a runway built for the occasion. For this event the audience participated by casting their votes via a Fashion Week San Diego phone application to vote for their favorite designer. The contest will be judged by the audience on wear ability, creativity and overall appearance and craftsmanship. The designer with the highest score will be announced at the trunk show the following afternoon on October 7th at the Hard Rock Hotel. The winning designer will score an ultimate business package to help jump-start their career.

San Diego’s Channel 6 Kristen Mosteller, who is an anchor news reporter, TV personality and host of “San Diego Living” at XETV, hosted the glamorous event. The news anchor and presenter was wearing a beautiful metallic gold dress piece from designer Stacie Mays collection. The dress was an asymmetrical shape, one shoulder, and one sleeve stunning dress.

The first designer to open up and present her collections on the runway was NOIA by Evelyne. Her collection featured contemporary young women’s fashion such as dresses and jumpsuits with splashes of spring colors and strips with a touch of black laces and sheer chiffons. Her designs are ready to wear from daytime to nighttime. Dos Caras presented their spring resort wear collection with two male models escorting the models wearing beachwear lying on the runway to give it a beach time theme. The models strutted down the runway showing off the playfully chic swimwear. The swimwear had beautiful prints that included floral feminine suits and cover-ups to sexy Brazilian showgirl swimwear. The “Champagne Ladies” definitely made a splash on the runway with their debut spring collection.

One of my favorites of the night was Jessica Faulkner’s collection. Her collection stood out for me because of how creative the designs and theme of the collection was. Her designs were a cross between modern contemporary and vintage flair of the 1930’s and 1940’s fashion era. The models wore an adorable small hat and heart shaped lips. Her pieces are very feminine, stylish and classic. One of my favorite pieces from her collection was the red two piece pants suit that can be easily worn by the career women to a night time dinner date. It is elegant, classic yet stylish and feminine. This piece is very reminiscent of the women’s 1940’s post world war two-era fashions. Another adorable design is a gray and white-stripped pants and top for a casual but feminine daytime look.

Another amazing designer that impressed me with his gowns is Kenneth Barlis. In his opening scene his model glided down the runway with a gorgeous flowing red plunging neckline dress with a plumed red feather samba like headdress. This dress was my favorite of all Kenneth Barlis dresses of the night. The back of the dress has Kenneth Barlis name which was quite creative.

During intermission of the runway show there was a mind blowing live performance by DJ Violinist, Jennifer “Spags” Spingola. Jennifer can be seen and heard opening for high profile runway shows and nightclub events all over the world.

SYC ‘s designer Sameerah Yasmeen Corporal was another one of my top designers of the night. Her collection has classic clean cuts and a splash of bold color palettes for spring. One design I simply adored was her two-piece pant outfit with chic black and white top and bold magenta color pants. This look can be worn at a chic resort dinner to a day time out on the town look. Another one of my favorite pieces is a very elegant red off shoulder dress with a chic golden belt. This dress can be worn at the corporate lunch meeting to a romantic lunch date.

The show ended with Andre Soriano’s collection, which happens to be another favorite designer of mine. The one dress I simply could not take my eyes off was a stunning and sophisticated shiny gold evening dress. This dress reminds me of Charlize Theron in the J’Adore Dior commercial. I can see this amazing dress on the red carpet or black tie elegant cocktail dinner. The second dress I couldn’t tear my eyes off is a stunning black evening gown with tutu like ruffled layers. The dress looks like a black ballerina dress and is simply beautiful. Mr. Soriano’s over the top glamour and creativity is reflected in his amazing gowns.

There were a total of 12 designers for the night, which also included jewelry designers: “Love is a Devil” and “Erin Rader” jewelry. I can say there is definitely a lot of talent here in San Diego. Overall the night was filled with glamour, entertainment and fun. After the runway shows the models, designers and crowd got a chance to snap photos as well as mingle before hitting the after party!

Fashion Desination Group Set Sail in Style Fashion Show

Newport Beach, CA- Saturday evening was another spectacular event put on by none other than the Fashion Destination Group and their charity partner, the Guard a Heart Foundation.  As the sun began to set , designers and celebrities, including the ever beautiful Maria Menounos, mingled with the crowd at the seaside red carpet. Flame throwers practiced their routine for an extra bit of entertainment while more and more people arrived to set sail in style. As passengers boarded the Majestic yacht they were treated to a Minx Nail bar and live music. Dinner was served as the yacht set off down the marina.  Up above on the second level, more live music and a bar complete with Diabolo and an alcoholic tea called Tatratea, got the party in motion. Winners of the Mermaid Search  Contest posed with fans in full mermaid regalia complete with custom-made fins by 3-Fins. The girls literally looked like they had been plucked out of the ocean.
