Los Angeles, CA October 17, 2012 – The 16th Bar, the only Petite Womenswear Brand of its kind, launches its debut Fall 2012 Collection with a runway show, and announces the launch date of their new online store.

The 16th Bar Fall 2012 Ready-To-Wear Runway Show took place in Downtown Los Angeles on October 17, 2012. The fall collection, designed by petite designer Frankie Ortiz, consisted of petite dresses, skirts, a trench coat, and a leather jacket.

The 16th Bar is the first high end label to focus strictly on the petite fit. With more than 40% of the world’s female population standing at 5’5 or shorter.

The collection was inspired by the Sumerian culture, connecting the brand’s beginning, to the beginning of mankind’s first civilization. The culture’s cuneiform symbols for ‘power’ and ‘god’ were used as it’s main inspiration, and mixed bright hues like baby blue and salmon pink with military green, burgundy, and black. The collection focused on simple cuts emphasizing a slimmer, taller, and curvier silhouette using high quality wool gabardines, raw silks, and leather.

On November 15th, The 16th Bar will launch the new highly anticipated online shop, located at www.the16thbar.com,and will be featuring the Fall 2012 Collection that was showcased during their debut runway show, and will include more products within just a few weeks. This shop will be the very first retailer to sell designer garments in petite sizes. “Our focus right now is to build brand value. We want to provide a great quality garment that fits, and we’re already targeting high end boutiques here in Los Angeles”, says designer Frankie Oritz.

“We’ve been receiving such an incredible response since the runway show! The entire evening was a complete success. But we could not have done it without our family, friends, team, and sponsors, and we want to personally thank Seed Theory Advertising, Hubert’s Lemonade, Sylvia Sylver PR, Boudoir Vodka, Stages of Beauty, Fidoo, Action Nutrition, Sara DeMuri and Nina Dumpa for providing makeup, celebrity hairstylist Cindy Chamberlain, Sheila Monaus for providing nails, and Campbell Darkroom. We’ve made our first impression, but this is just the beginning.” – Chief Designer Frankie Ortiz.

Spot Light - Featuring Ita Design

WWD MAGIC 2012 Spot Light Featuring Ita Design

When you actually hold a bag from the Ita-Collection you truly see first hand the detailing, and artwork that goes into creating each one. Bita took a moment and explained the construction of one of the bags to us in detail.

“For this particular style we were interested in developing a fabric that becomes the structure of the bag and as well as delivers the aesthetic of it. We developed this outer skin that you see. It’s all hand-made 14k-gold plated metal, woven with a mirror finish leather.”The bags are as unique as the women who wear them. Like most of the women who set their eyes on an Ita bag, I found myself obsessed with acquiring one. The design and construction of each can only be described as one-of-a-kind.

Rouzita adding to Bita’s explanation described the snakeskin gussets to us, “We call this Jade-Shimmer because the snakeskin gives a feel of precious stone. We also carry it in a sapphire color with a gunmetal finish. It’s great for an evening where you just want to add a pop of color on the side, it’s a nice little accent piece.”

Looking over the entire collection one would classify the bags in appearance as timeless, elegant pieces that can be passed down from generation to generation. In fact, the sisters shared with us how one mother did just that.

“We call our bags modern-vintage because they have a feel like you don’t know what time period it’s from. We had one customer buy one and then had us sign the bag for her daughter for her wedding. We later came to find out she was only 18 and didn’t even have a boyfriend yet…”

The design duo plans to launch the bags this fall and come November 1st the collection can be yours. The line will be available in the Beverly Hills and Bal Harbor Saks Fifth Avenue stores. In addition to bags, the sisters also designed a line of cuffs, complete with buckle detailing. The cuffs start at $325. The Farah clutch, seen in Instyle is available for $950.

When asked if they planned to design a line of clothing, the talented pair stated, “We would love to tackle clothes but at a later date…the handbags will be first and then slowly we will build and develop further.”

The Ita-sisters have launched a collection that is as strong and bold as the women who stand behind it. With their background and talent there is no stopping Bita and Rouzita Vahhabaghai.

NAMI shows her 2013 Collection at Siren Studios during LA Fashion Week

NAMI, just showed her spring/summer 2013 collection at Siren Studios as part of LA Fashion Week. NAMI is a brand based out of Los Angeles, CA and is made stateside in San Francisco, CA. Sarah Nami Ahn, a U. S. Army brat, and neuroscience PhD turned fashion designer graduated from FIDM Los Angeles, and will be showing at Spring/Summer 2013 Mercedes-Benz China Fashion Week.

As soon as her Spring 2013 line came down the runway you could feel the combination of hard on soft. Ahn used accessories to combine textures throughout her collection. Many of her opening looks were black on black, and her use of princess panel detailing throughout the collection gave it an ocean vibe. Her seaweed inspired jewelry kept it light and airy. And to keep the edge NAMI inspired by her military background mixed hard buckle details with comfy knits and gave it a kick with skintight leggings.

As the show went on NAMI’s use of color and prints began to show. She started with a dark color pallet and then shifted the show into a rainbow of color and prints. The show went from dark to light, and in this way Ahn was able to show a wider range. NAMI’s spring show was like staring into the ocean and finding a chic mermaid staring back at you. Her use of accessories, textures, and color added another level of complexity to her simple silhouettes.

Skingraft shows 2013 Line @Skybar for LA Fashion Week

Dressing the way you feel can be challenging sometimes. Skingraft designs pieces that make you look as cool as you feel. Their designs are at the brink of edgy, it gives a new meaning to the word style, and every piece can easily change your outlook on life. It is the modern day body armor, and being a warrior of the streets is what Los Angeles style is all about.

Skingraft is lead by designer Jonny Cota and brand manager Chris Cota in Los Angeles, CA. The line is considered art inspired, custom designed fashion and produces full ready to wear collections for both men and women. Johnny Cota showed his Spring/Summer 2013 collection this October poolside at the Skybar in the Mondrian LA Hotel.

He kept the tone of the night “bad ass” with leather android arm gear, garter belts, body armor, and fingerless gloves. Skingrafts collection was inspired by “a new generation of motorcycle gangs,” and included leather shorts with leggings for men paired with thick black gladiator sandals.

Keeping an urban esthetic the color pallet was made up of black, red, and white. Cota used leather, silk, and cotton jersey knit to combine texture combinations for every look. Styled with hats and visors as accessories, Skingraft kept a serious tone, as they stood along the pool side by side. The play on texture and color were perfectly balanced and achieved a minimal appearance within a variety of concealed details.

Ash Couture and Quynh Paris Show at Style Fashion Week

Thursday night at the Vibiana in downtown Los Angeles, Style Fashion Week hosted their second to last night of fashion shows. The two uniquely distinct female designers,  Quynh Nhu of Quynh Paris and Ashna Karla of Ash Haute Couture, showed their collections back to back on the runway to a packed house of viewers at the historic Vibiana converted cathedral in downtown Los Angeles.

Quynh Nhu's line Quynh Paris featured bohemian inspired pieces and a blend of various cultures from across the world. Quynh, a graduate of the French Fashion school Mode' Art International in Paris, uses her Parisian background to blend different aesthetic elements together such as floral embellishments, oriental detailing, and galaxy inspired prints. Her niche for combining categories is even apparent in her haute couture and ready-to-wear collection names including: "We are the World," "From One Season to Another," and Blurred Nature. "Her collection seemed to transform from an underwater aquatic vibe to a futuristic space odyssey adventure. Next the pieces underwent a dip into an oriental phase and finally ending with a flowing bohemian style full of pastel colors and high to low hem lines.

Indian designer Ashna Karla used her fashion branding background and Indian origins to create her beautiful line Ash Haute Couture. The bright colors, and Ashna's attention to detailing in her designs, grabbed viewers attention against the white backdrop of the state. The collection also featured intricate embellishing on the ruffled dresses and tops.  Her pieces were fun and flirty, perfect for the modern woman looking for contemporary style made with age-old craftsmanship. Even the pants and matching tops made a strong, yet feminine statement. Ashna knows how to combine all the feminine aspects of ruffles, lace, sparkle and color into one to make the ultimate lady-like dress.  Lace covered glasses and silver glitter lips gave each model a mysterious appearance and added to the youthfulness of the collection. The runway show also included Ash's intricately woven clutches with bright eastern patterns that a few of the models carried down the runway.
